The Marquette Neighborhood Association is heartbroken by the death of Corey Ruiz, who was killed by the police in our neighborhood. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who are grieving this profound loss.
We recognize that this tragedy is especially painful given the long history of racial inequities and the deep impact that police violence has had on Black communities. We know that our neighbors are experiencing fear, anger, sadness, and uncertainty.
As a neighborhood, we are committed to helping one another through this difficult time. We also support a full, transparent, and accountable investigation into what occurred. Rebuilding and strengthening trust requires honesty, accountability, and meaningful engagement with the community.
We encourage neighbors to care for one another, listen with compassion, and remain committed to creating a neighborhood where every person feels safe, valued, and treated with dignity.
